| Context |
Set a few centuries in the future. Most "Star Trek" spacecraft use warp drives for long-distance travel. |
| Description |
In Star Trek, warp drives are used to provide faster-than-light travel using space-time curvature. Antimatter is used as an energy source. The feasibility of warp drives has been discussed in physics journals for several years. See for example the proposal of M Alcubierre, 1994 Class. Quantum Grav. 11 L73 It is generally suggested that such drives would require huge amounts of energy, and that exotic types of matter would be needed, though there is as yet no consensus on the subject. |
